B.A.D.mix 005 – SHE Spells Doom

Wamya drops us off a riveting mix flowing from delicate melodies through to wreathing rhythms at number 5 in our series. Fresh off the back of a Black Techno Matters IG residency, this mix presents a further look what makes his ears tick.

How are things going for you recently?

Things are going great, thanks. Just trying to stay healthy and keep creating.

What have you been up to?

Recently released my EP, “Rudnick” with London based label – All Centre. Back in cutting demos for my next releases and sound design work.

If you could go back in time, what musical era would you go back to? Why?

This 1s a bit tricky but I think I’m going with the 80s. Would have loved to experience – Funk/Boogie, New Wave and the rise of synth music in general as an adult.

Tell us a bit about the mix.

It’s summertime in Lusaka – I was just trying to make a soundtrack to match the warmth and energy of the season right now.

What’s your favourite track in the mix? How did you discover it?

My closing track of the mix, Venetian Mask by Matrixxman – an artist I studied really closely back when I was figuring out what I was trying to do with my sound as SHE Spells Doom. Not sure how I discovered this track but probably because I was buying everything he dropped around that time.

Finally, who else would you like to see in the series?

I’d love to see blaqkongo and DORMANTYOUTH in the series – Both super talented DJs based in South Africa.
