How are things going for you recently?

Things are building momentum and the seeds planted are coming to fruition, which I am grateful for.

What have you been up to?

I have been playing out more, nationally too which is exciting, also continuing to sing and tunes with my production as well as vocals are in the pipeline. I work in a secondary school 4 days a week too so balancing being a math teacher and musician is an interesting balancing act I’m getting the hang of.

If you could go back in time, what musical era would you choose to experience? Why?

I am fascinated by the second summer of love during the 80’s, from what I’ve read and documentaries watched, people truly felt the spirit of musical revolution and love… before bureaucracy and austerity sunk it’s teeth in hard, people were organising and mobilising on a mass scale, what was achieved amazes me. We have to be grateful for because of the foundations laid during that time.

Tell us a bit about the mix.

The mix features a lot of my all time favourite tunes and I also made a point of selecting from as many labels and artists that I respect and admire. There’s a section about 2 thirds of the way where I’m mixing a couple of No Nation and I’s tunes, a lot of which were started during lockdown, we made the resolve to create with the time we had and it’s beautiful to know

What’s your favourite track in the mix? How did you discover it?

Jamiu – Don’t Miss … he makes tunes that don’t sound like anything you’ve heard before, so evocative and unique. He samples a talking drum (west African instrument) for the break and when I realised, my love for the tune increased exponentially. It’s the title track of his self released album, definitely check the whole thing out.

Finally, who else would you like to see in the series?

No Nation!
