How are things going for you recently?

It’s a very weird time for me actually. I’m super fortunate to be back in NYC with my family, working, DJing and creating, but not sure whether I should be celebrating given the uncertainty currently with the pandemic and the war. I have mixed emotions but I am grateful to be here.

What have you been up to?

I’ve been doing alot of incredible interviews lately, both for work and my personal podcast. Just wrote an awesome interview piece about National Geographic explorer Tara Roberts. She’s the first Black Nat-Geo explorer who’s currently searching for thousands of slave ship wrecks around the world to hopefully uncover somes stories of our African ancestors.

I’m also putting together a series of episodes about mental health and therapy in music for Club Management. I think it’s a topic that isn’t really explored that much in entertainment and it’s important to me. I’m so gassed to share some of the open conversations I’ve collected.

If you could go back in time, what musical era would you choose to experience? Why?

The 70’s and 80’s hands down! What a funky time to be alive. If you listen to a Gap Band tune or George Clinton and the Funkadelics, they just sound like they were having so much fun in the studio recording. The instrumentation mixed with pure experimentation is something I just love hearing.

Tell us a bit about the mix.

This mix is a personal diary of what I’ve been listening to lately. A Lot of UKG, 4 X 4 Garage as well as House, Jersey Club and Global music. This is definitely the blend you’d get if you were coming to see me at a show. I recorded this on a sunny evening just dancing around my apartment. I hope you feel that!

What’s your favourite track in the mix? How did you discover it?

Armando’s “Real Jazz” is just pure Chicago House bliss. I found it while digging on the Trax Records bandcamp. That Jazz sample and that soulful vocal acapella.. Chefs kiss!! I can’t wait to play it on a proper sound system.

Finally, who else would you like to see in the series?

Kilopatrah Jones
