For July’s instalment of B.A.D. picks, we’re joined by New York based artist Escaflowne. With a debut vinyl EP forthcoming on Fixed Rhythms this August and previous releases out on Haus of Altr and Sorry Records, Escaflowne is an exciting and fresh talent who is fast becoming known for his versatile and contemporary take on electro and polyrhythmic frameworks.
Check out the trusted selector’s Bandcamp picks below.
SWAP MEET! – THRU THE MOTIONS
SWAP MEET!’s most recent release is nothing but pure reel to reel jungle energy. Also, the whole project is free/pay what you want. If you like jungle, you should have these tracks in your collection.
Night Slugs, CalvoMusic & Zfrek – Shake My Ass
Calvomusic is one of my favorite Baltimore club producers at the moment and this is easily my favorite club track of the summer thus far. It’s guaranteed to make somebody shake their ass.
Mike Gip – Deep Inside
Another one of my favourite club tracks at the moment. It has just the right amount nostalgia from the Deep Inside samples.
Jeremy Sylvester – Get Down On Your Knees
Jeremy Sylvester has a huge backlog of tracks both old and new on his Bandcamp and I really like this particular release. This track is my favourite one on the release, but the other two are quality as well.
Qemist – Lick It Good
This whole EP from Qemist is full of club worthy edits, and I’m particularly fond of this “My Neck, My Back” edit. I have a soft spot for any track that samples Khia, and this is one of best takes on it I’ve heard recently.
KG & Scratchclart – Strings of Death & Life
One of my favourite tracks from both Scratcha & KG. It gives you just enough nostalgia from “Strings of Life” samples while keeping the rest of the production clean and modern with their gqom influenced drums and synths.
